Tennis in Tokyo – how easy is it to play regularly?

Hi, I may have an opportunity to move to Japan, but I’d like to make sure I can still enjoy my hobbies, particularly tennis, so:

How easy is it to play regularly (multiple times per week) in Tokyo?

Does anybody here have experience with local clubs, or used local matchmaking websites?

  1. You can sign up on tennis bear to join sessions, I think they’re mostly japanese groups. There are also some tennis events on meetup (particularly Joy Tennis Tokyo is quite active).

If you go to your local park, you can sign up to reserve courts online (some parks are part of the Tokyo wide system, others will be part of the district). You can enter a lottery to reserve courts a month ahead. After the lottery period, you can sign up for any open courts leftover or any that open up when people cancel. Generally it’s ~¥1300 per hour plus an extra ~¥500 per hour in the evening. Places with hard courts like Ariake are more expensive ~¥4500 per hour.

Most of the courts here are Omni, so they have sand and slide similarly to clay.
