Weekly Complaint Thread – 09 March 2023

As per every Thursday morning—this week’s complaint thread! Time to get anything off your chest that’s been bugging you or pissed you off.

Rules are simple—you can complain/moan/winge about anything you like, small or big. It can be a personal issue or a general thing, except politics. It’s all about getting it off your chest. Remain civil and be nice to other commenters (even try to help).

  1. WHY ARE ROUNDTRIP PLANE TICKETS SO EXPENSIVEEEEE like cmon man i get that it’s probably the prettiest season of the year to be in japan, but i just wanna go home for a bit and eat my mom’s cooking 😭

  2. Fkkn Makudonarudo appli still had the lunch/dinner menu ONLY available, at 6am…so i had to go up to the counter and order in-person like some kind of plebian.

  3. I feel like I’m living the movie groundhogs day. Every day is the same shit. Wake up early af, drive an hour to work, do the same boring shit at work, get paid shit, go home, sleep, repeat. I hate this

  4. Gotta buy new business casual clothes and am planning for a weekend shopping trip somewhere. Ugh,I absolutely hate shopping for clothes, partly because time to purchased items ratio is so bad and partly because I now feel like Grandpa Simpson about knowing what’s “in”.

    I guess I’ll take a look around r/malefashionadvice a bit.

  5. Took on too much work like always at this time of year and have no idea how I’m going to finish it all and get my taxes done and live my life like a human person. Also my bones are starting to disintegrate and everything hurts.

  6. Booking everything for family to visit and they can’t make decisions and change everything at the last minute. We’re planning a wedding at the same time but I swear the family holiday part is like 3x as much stress.

  7. wanna go to Kyoto but alot of the recommended cafes or food places that peak my interest have been closed down 😢

  8. My wife hyphenated her last name after we got married. Went to update it on her passport yesterday. They refused to accept her application unless I provided a copy of my residence card to prove the English spelling of the katakana. She had a copy of one of my credit cards, an old residence certificate from City Hall, and a picture of my passport showing the spelling, but they refused everything. The residence certificate didn’t have a picture of me (even though they had never seen me and wouldn’t know one way or another), the credit card “could have been made with any fake name he wanted” (is that a thing? You can just put any name you want on a credit card?), and my passport picture was just a picture. So my wife went home after about an hour of back and forth. She told me what happened and I said “All right, they wanna confirm my English spelling, let’s do it.” And I got my current residence card, four previous cards, my Japanese and US driver’s licenses, my MyNumber card, a PADI scuba diving card, and a certified original copy of my birth certificate and went back to the passport office. I dumped all that shit on the table and said “I hope one of these work because it’s all I have.” The lady no shit began to examine each one of my IDs with a magnifying glass. I asked her what she was doing and she said she’s checking for seals and other marks to ensure the IDs are authentic. I asked if she was trained to identify a fake driver’s license from Oregon and she said no and stopped checking the IDs shortly thereafter. Then she wanted to take photo copies of everything, I asked her if it’s necessary and she said yes, so I told her no. Then she dropped it and moved on with different bullshit. The new bullshit? It wasn’t simply enough that my wife’s name was what it is on her koseki, MyNumber, driver’s license, credit cards, etc., the lady at the passport office said in order to process our application she needed a copy of the fucking letter we wrote the court three years ago explaining WHY my wife changed her name to what it is. At that point the baby started crying and I had to walk around to soothe her, but my wife kept talking to the passport lady, who grew to become 3-4 people over the next thirty minutes, until finally they dropped the requirement for the document showing why she changed her name and agreed to accept her application. The new passport will arrive in about a week, which is a pretty decent turnaround time I have to say.

  9. People who set up meetings “just to sync up”, with no agenda, no preparation and no fucking clue what they actually want to accomplish at the damn meeting, and then go 10+ minutes over time, should all just spontaneously combust – the world would instantly become a better place…

Holy hell the number of meetings recently that should have been an email or a slack message is too damn high…

  10. Need to apply for PR but my city office doesn’t have a tax office nearby. Also kind of worried about bank book since I’ve been using the app for so long.

  11. It sucks when your SO breaks up with you.

But it sucks even more when you know that they’ve made the objectively correct decision, because you hurt and disappointed them.

  12. For a few years I’ve been taking allergy medication for dust mites. One big benefit has been that it seems to have been blocking th kafunsho. But the last two nights my face has been swelling up like a balloon lol. Brutal.

  13. Nothing serious, but –

Wanna throw away that combini receipt? Static electricity says no!

  14. Are we officially out of the “samui” season and the “atsui” season started yesterday?

  15. Went to pick up my My Number card a couple of days ago, and what should have been a no-more-than-10-mins thing became an hour and twenty minutes.

Why? Because when I got there, I was given another form asking me to choose two PINs, which then took an hour+ to be inputted into the system.

Why on earth was the PIN info not part of the original application form?!?!
受け取り should be just that; no extra BS.

  16. It’s getting warmer and I love it. Apparently the guy downstairs loves it too because he’s been on his balcony yelling on the phone for the last few days around 3 at night. Guess who no longer gives a shit and starts his exercise routine involving a shit ton of floor banging at 5 in the morning now…!

I know I should call the cops, but I’ll be moving in a month and just want to fuck up his sleep for a while like he did mine. People living next to me leave the house around that time and the room next to the loud dude is empty, so I shouldn’t be bothering anyone else anyway.

  17. the number of phishing emails hitting my work inbox every single day is too damn high!! it’s gotten markedly worse in the past couple of weeks, and it’s especially bad this week for whatever reason.
