My friend lives in a sharehouse and a Japanese employee of the company lives there as well. My friend brought a friend over which isn’t against the contract signed. My friend said that while they were sleeping in the room, the employee banged on the door. When they asked what was happening, the employee opened the door without permission and said the friend should not be there.
After all of that, the sharehouse manager and the employee created a group chat with the friend who was staying over and spoke about how my friend was a cheater etc. Insane, right?
Once I heard the story, I felt as though something had to be illegal here
1. I can’t imagine living in a house with an employee, but perhaps legally that has no weight regardless of conflict of interest or power harrassment
2. As far as I understand, rooms in a sharehouse are very much like units. The employee had no right to open the door especially since my friend’s contract doesn’t prohibit friends from staying over (even so…still illegal, no?)
3. A company manager creating a group chat with the friend HAS to be harrassment.
4. In a sharehouse you’re paying for your own private room, right which is its own kind of unit. Can a sharehouse say you cannot have friends in your room?
Either way, is there anything that can be done?

The answer to this is if possible leave the share house. This sounds like high school level drama and regardless of legality is completely nuts.
tell your friend to read the contract. Usually it says a person can stay no more then 5 days. For other stuff they can fuck off
Read the contract and contact the share house company.
1. What’s in the contract? While guests might be allowed overnighting probably isn’t.
2. Overnight guests are best dealt with by being consideration for your cohabitators and renting a love hotel for the evening.
3. Tell them if they don’t want people opening their door lock it.
I think the company is in the right here. My guess is the sharehouse contract doesn’t allow guests.
> A company manager creating a group chat with the friend HAS to be harrassment.
What…? How the hell is it harassment to have a group chat with the manager and employee of someone who seems to be breaking the contract…
You guys seem to be really entitled tbh…
Assuming this is a apartment building/dorm-style sharehouse run by a management company and not just a couple of people living together:
1. Yes, nobody has the right to just barge into your room. You could actually call the cops on them since it’s illegal entering. The only time they would ever be allowed to do this is when there’s a real fire hazard, you might be in physical danger, etc. This should also be a clause about this in your contract by the way. If the contract doesn’t say anything about people staying over, people can stay over. The rules about this are usually very clearly stated in sharehouse contracts though, so it’s a little odd that this wouldn’t be mentioned anywhere.
2. Very much depends on what’s in the group chat. I mean, it’s just a group chat after all. If they start spewing hateful shit or threatening you, be grateful they’re leaving your friend with written proof so definitely don’t shut it down either way.
3. Your personal space is very much treated like an apartment/マンション legally speaking, yes. Specific rules concerning people coming over and staying over are usually stated in your contract though. If the contract says nobody can stay over or costs a certain fee, you have no choice but to follow suit (or hope they don’t find out). If they do find out, they have legal ground to kick you out though, so be careful. If the contract says nothing, it’s their own fault for not including this so feel free to do what you want as long as it doesn’t bother other people and doesn’t qualify as co-habitation.
TL;DR
> the employee opened the door without permission
Very illegal if there is no emergency. Also a good reason to always lock your door.
> said the friend should not be there.
Nothing about this in the contract? The friend can be there.
> created a group chat with the friend who was staying over and spoke about how my friend was a cheater etc. Insane, right?
Very insane. Great written proof though, so lucky~
