Cell phone company for Remote Desktop (fast ping/good speed I guess)

I am doing a lot of (Windows) Remote Desktop because when I work from outside I need to access the company computer. A couple years ago, I was satisfied with my Y! Mobile subscription even for RDP, but now it’s just OK to browse the net and all, however in Tokyo I wait sometimes more than a second for a reaction.

Is anyone having such a use case, and what company would you recommend?

I would ideally like to pay less than 4000¥ and have 20 GB per month.

I hear that KDDI/au is liked by gamers because of the fast ping, which would fit my use case. How about Docomo? Before, I was on Docomo-supplied MNVOs (instead of the real thing because they are/were suuuuper expensive and I buy my phones separately) and it was a pure nightmare.

  1. less than 4000 yen and 20gb per month, sounds like you could go for ahamo (docomo’s low price version)

You could also check out the low price version of softbank (linemo) or au (povo)

These low price versions are still using the main network so they don’t slow down like MVNOs – just that you don’t get full service experience like instore support.

not sure about the differences in latency, so can’t really answer there. sorry

  2. WiMax would be one way to go. It’s very fast wireless, but not (necessarily?) connected with a phone…. you have a phone-sized modem thing that creates a WiFi hotspot.

When I had it (~5 years ago), you got great connectivity so long as you had used less than 10GB in the last rolling three days. If you exceeded that, it throttled itself until after the day that the rolling-three-day bandwidth dropped below 10GB. I work all day on my computer, and it was great if you didn’t want to Netflix every night (which I did, so I bailed).
