Vocabulary app + self-graded Kanji writing

I’m looking for an (Android) vocabulary app that lets me practice Kanji writing (in addition to the normal things a vocabulary app should do). Note that I don’t need the app to grade my Kanji, I can do so myself. And I do want the app to be vocabulary rather than Kanji focused (so, for example, the scoring should be for the words not for Kanji; and it should include words that are always written in kana).

For example it could work something like this:

* I choose a custom or predefined (e.g. JLPT N4) list of Japanese words
* The app gives me the English meaning (or, even better, a fill in the blank Japanese sentence where this word is hidden)
* The app shows me a blank screen where I can write Kanji one by one
* The app then shows me the correct writing animation side by side with the animation of my writing; it also shows me of the hiragana reading and maybe some examples of the word in use The app lets me self-grade myself.
* The app could either be SRS based or simply let me filter words based on the most recent score.

Could anyone recommend an app like this?

  1. Skritter has something close to what you are talking about but it is not 100% the same. Also it is fairly expensive and a bit janky, in my opinion. That is the closest that I know of just due to the fact you want it to be vocab and not kanji based.

I might suggest just creating an anki deck and using a pen and paper, if that is viable.

  2. For Vocab… anki is the way to go as long as you dont hate it.

For Kanji, have look at KanjiStudy. the first 100 are free after that it’s a one time cheap price. It lets your draw them, grade them and then you can review them with filters like “the worst X%” etc

  3. I think shirabe jisho fits your description. It’s available on ios

1.you can choose certain words to study by means of placing it in your reading list, or choose the category made by the app. from the top words, or by school level (grade 1 above), or by srudy level (n5-1), or specific groups of words like intransitive verbs or transitive verbs

    2. About example, they do give example once you look up for the word

3.theres a feature where you can write the kanji to look for it i think there is also a feature where you can make a note from the word. Idk yet if you can handwrite on the note

4.it does show a step to step instruction on the correct way of handwriting it and they also give example sentences

    5. Idk about this one lol
