My Japanese friends in Kyoto say, the most beautiful view of maiko-san is when they’re viewed from the back. My adopted aunt even said, maiko-san are best not viewed from the front as many times they would disappoint.
She’s likely a furisodesan, not a maiko. Maiko can only be found in Kyoto and Nara. Tokyo does have apprentice geisha too, called hangyoku, but they tend to dress a bit different.
Very nice picture though! I like how you can still see the faces in the crowd behind her.
How can you know Geisha and Maiko?
The hairstyle is so unique.
She’s a Furisode-san, not a Maiko, which should be obvious since she’s wearing a wig and Tokyo apprentices are very different from Kyoto Maiko, plus real Maiko use red ties, not pink
What’s the difference between a maiko and geisha?
