Has anyone ever been to the Nico Nico Chokaigi Game Party?

Saw this on Tokyo Cheapo. The site describes it as a game event, but from what I can see, it seems more like an anime event.

Is this event worth the price of admission for someone who is into gaming (especially indie gaming) but doesn’t care much for anime culture?

  1. If you like indie gaming, make your way to BitSummit in Kyoto in the spring.

  2. Do you know Nico Nico Douga? It is like Japan’s YouTube. This is a comprehensive event of it.

So it is not only anime and games.
They invite politicians to debate, they do chemical experiments, and they also invite Kabuki, shrines, and professional wrestling.

They invite popular creators on Nico Nico Nico, so that’s a lot of games and dancers.

I don’t like crowds, so I don’t go, but every year I think that event is full of ideas and looks like fun.

Not everything has been announced yet, but you can check out what booths are available and then decide.

  3. I went to a few times pre-covid, it was always a blast.
Just be aware that some sensationalist news channels usually go out and try to interview any obvious foreigners.
If you’re after any goods make sure you go early.

  4. I went a long time ago. It was really fun! I got to drink beer with Zun, the creator of the Touhou games. There was a lot of just weird booths that were very random (like one displaying phones throughout the ages which was actually very interesting). I would go if I wasn’t super busy.
