  1. Hi, I’m from the Philippines and my common law partner’s older sister is a Jehovah’s witness for more than 30 years (and counting) and is currently based in California. My partner has been attending to these meetings (although not frequently) due to some setbacks like his vices and whatnot. I did attended their bible study, but I was halfhearted because of them being kind of too conservative, and I’m an agnostic type. I do agree (fully) on what was mentioned in the article, and disfellowship among the baptized seemed to occur in some instances. Their younger sister was disfellowed because she married her high school sweetheart who was previously married, and now they were ostracized by my partner’s other siblings.

I can attest being a member of that congregation takes a lot of work, and a lot of knowledge as well; and I’m somewhat of an introvert who finds such encounters and confrontations nerve-wracking. I mean, they’re okay, but sometimes too much of their religion goes way over their heads they even feel like they act too philosophical, which is something I feel like I want to somehow ignore. Add the fact once should ever if I get baptized I’d go knock on doors and preach or every midweek they pick random people to do some roleplay on preaching (something like that)—it’s just I didn’t like interacting with people. Their religion is okay, but it’s their organization that’s kind of going overhead with their philosophical ideals and overly strict with dress code.
