A new vending machine appeared in my neighbourhood. Turns out its a hot or cold sweet potato machine. Now my default position is that anything “fresh” from a machine is going to kill me and these potatoes are either going to be covered in mold or dry af. But I thought no, this is Japan ill give it a chance.

Glad I did too! It was warm, moist and tasted great. I have been in Japan for a long time and honestly I getting immune to its pleasures. I am glad of little things like this that take me back to where my love of living here started.

  1. I saw one in Nagasaki when I visited there too so looks like they’re spread pretty far and wide

  2. The price though. How much are normal yakiimos sold on the stands at the supermarkets in Tokyo?

  3. There’s a drink machine that also has sweet potatoes a little left of the Seiyu at Kami Shakujii Station. Haven’t tried them because they’re pricey.

  4. Make sure you return the container as it appears to be used to fund supporting those with disabilities (according to your photo)
