Permanent residency application for spouse of japanese recently arrived

According to the MOJ website, I can apply for PR if I lived in Japan for 1 year and have been married for more than 3. This is applicable in my case. (If that matters I also lived in Japan previously for 6 years, but I went back home in between)

However, I have a question regarding the proof of payment of various things:
\- juuminzei (have not paid yet, they ask for 3 years)
\- nenkin (have paid since I’m here, but they ask for 2 years)
\- kenkou hoken (have paid since I’m here, but they ask for 2 years)

Is it ok, if I only submit for the period since I’ve arrived in Japan? Was anyone on the same case than me?

  1. Yes your case is not that rare, I and some of my friends sponsored our spouses before they stay 3 years in Japan so their tax and insurance did not meet the 2 or 3 years condition either. We simply wrote a short letter to explain.

  2. You should be able to submit your spouses tax/nenkin documents in lieu of yours.

  3. Yeah, you only need to submit what you have access to. Being overseas is fine, as long as you’ve been a resident for the minimum required time soon before application.

  4. As others have said, you will be fine submitting what you have for the period of residence.
