Anybody use Philips Hue sync box? Or understand from the linked website

I’ve recently set up Philips Hue light bars, bulbs, strips and motion sensors around my house and coordinate them with the Philips bridge and app.

The sync box looks cool to coordinate the colors on your TV with the light strips or bars on the back of your TV.

You have to connect HDMI devices to the sync box, then the sync box connects to the TV. Then whatever colors appear on the screen also are projected from the lights behind the TV.

Currently my TV signal comes directly from the wall outlet into the TV. Therefore I am thinking that not having a set top box for TV in Japan means that it will only work with my Xbox games and things I watch through my 4k Apple TV device, both of which have HDMI outputs currently going into the TV, but which I can redirect into the sync box.

First, am I correct in my assumption? Secondly, is there any adapter or work around that I can route my TV signal into this box via HDMI? Thanks

  1. Yep your assumption is correct. The best way to get lights to sync up to TV content is if you run your TV antenna in to a dedicated tuner box first, then HDMI from that into the sync box. You can buy these tuners, usually in the form of HDD recorder boxes.

  2. Yeah, like others have said, you’ll need a dedicated box to run the signal from your antenna to your TV. Honestly though I really only feel the impact of the sync box when I’m watching a 4K movie with my living room lights turned down quite a bit. Also listening to music on my Apple TV is pretty lit. If you have anymore questions, I’d be happy to answer them.
