Japan bar in Shinjuku, no speak to Japanese girl?

Hey all, new to this community and country. So was out last Friday night, went to a karaoke bar in Shinjuku with 5 mates from USA and Australia. I was enjoying my time but one of my USA mates was tuning a Japanese girl. Seemed pretty promising from my position on the other side of the bar but can’t be sure because it’s my first time in Japan and don’t know how the women are like here in japan. He spoked Japanese so I think it was good. However got to our 4th round in with our 2,300 yen 60 min karaoke session and the bar half Korean owner told my America friend that we can have another 60 mins but can’t talk to any girls inside the bar? So did my friend do something wrong. I tired dragging him out after I heard that because I thought something was up here. But the bar owner gave no explanation for that and the girls stopped talking to him. So did the girls say something to the bar owner to get him out and including us? He was pretty drunk and smashed a glass and spilled two drinks by this point but it seemed promising for him still after all that as they were still chatting to him. I was ready to go stay at another friends place so he can have some quality time with his new friend at our hotel but yeah things went south from there. Any idea’s what caused all this? Maybe the Japanese girl told the bar owner to get rid of us? Kinda like those memes with the angel shot if you ever seen those memes. Would like to know your guys perspective as I’m kinda clueless about what happened. He was pretty upset after the ordeal, cheers 🍻

  1. “He was pretty drunk and smashed a glass and spilled two drinks”

Ah yes. You guys sound like a great bunch to represent your respective countries in Japan.

Yes, he did something wrong. He smashed a glass and spilled two drinks.

It’s possible that the girl complained. Chances are if he’s drunk enough to break glasses, spill drinks and then get angry over something like this, I’d assume he said something to them they didn’t like.

    >He was pretty upset after the ordeal

Upset at himself, I assume? I’d be upset at myself as well if I was visiting a foreign country and then proceeded to make an ass out of myself. If he’s upset at the bar owner and/or the girls then he’s the type of person who shouldn’t be out drinking.

  3. Assumption here but I believe people here are having a misunderstanding. I assume that when you say your friend broke a glass it was because he was drunk not that he was being a aggressive drunk.

Your friend probably propositioned the girl, she got offended & possibly complained.

  4. Being new to the culture, you should know that your group behaved badly and that’s unfortunate. In Japan, how you behave in public is all you have, so making a spectacle of yourself in public isn’t welcome.

Yes, the women felt unsafe. The only kind of Japanese woman who wants your direct, drunken, untoward advances are the gaijin hunters and you don’t have to try that hard for them.

Yes, the owner tossed you for the safety of his business and the girls. Why come here and complain? Learn and move on.

  5. Some bars don’t allow obvious attempts at picking up. They want everyone to be comfortable.

It *could* be that, but it sounds more like your friend was a sloppy drunk and was annoying the other customer so the bar owner shut it down.

Your friend was “pretty upset”?! Tell your friend to learn to handle his liquor. He should be embarrassed, not upset.
