I’m applying to both Trinity College and Tokyo International (the annual costs in total are pretty much the same, including fees and living expenses) and i wanted to know which one offers more opportunities after graduating (bachelor’s degree)
What is your degree going to be for, and what language do you intend to study in?
I’m inclined to say Trinity College is the better choice by a wide margin by pretty much any comparison though.
I’d go with Trinity, Trinity (i think) is regarded as the best college in Ireland, and I’m not sure that TIU is even the best international university in Tokyo. I realize that “best” is kind of silly (I went to a top 50 university) but it’ll limit your options outside of Japan most likely. I’d look into English language programs at top universities, since those have greater recognition outside of Japan, or if you’re 100% sure you’re going to settle in Japan long term (which is almost impossible to know at your age), look at a wide range of international universities, some of the best are in random locations.
If you’re looking for the better university, I’d say Trinity is an easy choice.
If you’re looking for opportunities in Japan, an English program in Japan is generally not the better choice, Trinity would give you more opportunities. A program in Japanese would be better for that.
The only consideration I will share is that in Dublin you will have a social circle mostly including drinking. Japanese also like to drink but they tend not to do 14 hour benders. You will also be able to grab cheap flights to Europe for more adventures. TUD is an excellent elite University in Ireland so your education will be at a high standard. However some courses are better than other. The Degree is recognised under the Bologna Agreement so a lvl8 for Bachelors. As it’s taught in English by native speakers it will be valuable for you. You will also have a good student experience. People are very liberal in Ireland. You will be able to socialise at the drop of a hat. No pre planning, just on the day – hey let’s go for a drink after college.
In Japan you will be in the Uni with other students. Student life can be stifling and Japanese social life can be sometimes hey let’s plan to see each other in 14 days as people can have part time jobs etc. other thing is, you’ll be able to tour Japan and S.E Asia, Australia but Europe/US/Canada will be out of your radar. It’s too far away and expensive to travel to and from Japan. I’m not sure of the Degree prestige but most students in Japan are graduating in to work after attending interviews in their final year, so while this seems to matter in Japan. Internationally, a degree is a degree depending on the field. Japan is wonderful but for a college experience, I seen first hand how busy students are and having experienced Uni in Ireland I can tell you Ireland could be a better experience.
For fun and an unique student life experience, I would say TUD.
