I’m hosting my first Japanese student! Any must remember courtesy or phrases etc?

I’m a student and I’m going to host a Japanese student soon they’re only staying for a week but I want them to have a good and comfortable time here in Australia! I’ve been studying Japanese for 2 years now and enjoy watching anime occasionally so I know the basics, but any helpful phrases or courtesy’s would be great!

  1. Okaerinasai – welcome home

    Itekimas – I’m going out

    Tadaima – I’m home

Abunai! Shawaani kyodaina kumoga iru! – Look out! There’s a gigantic spider in the shower

  2. I’d recommend phrase like 「楽にしてね」literal translation is “take it easy” but it would work like “make yourself at home”

  3. Just be yourself and natural. That will be the best for your guest. Try to take them to see something local and cool like a kangaroo or koala. Make sure they’re aware of the dangers like brown snakes, hoop snakes, funnel webs and drop bears. I’m sure something simple like a beet root burger or fish and chips would make your guest happy.

  4. Don’t try so hard to appeal to their culture. They’re coming to Australia to be somewhere different.
