17 Day Itinerary – Solo Traveler (Friend didn’t get passport in time)

Quick summary: 28 Male big fan of technology, fast cars, interesting buildings/architectures and fishes. I’ve always found myself traveling alone but always wanted to go with someone. After doublebooked hotels/AirBnBs (paid for two people) I’m back to square one. Total cost of the trip so far is around $4500 (my first class roundtrip ticket + prebooked hotels + etc).

  1. Why not complete the same area on the same day?

Don’t do the JR Pass, especially if you are flying to Osaka.

What train from Kyoto to Tokyo is $44?

As another said, do trains rather than taxis. Its cheaper and quicker in most cases.

  2. Why are you taking taxis everywhere? Public transportation is cheap, reliable, and part of the “Tokyo experience.” Honestly it’s often easier to use than dealing with taxis.

  3. Taxi can be useful if you carry a lot of luggage or if you are too late for the last train, besides that you’ll go faster by subway or train. And it will be way cheaper.

  4. One of the most amazing transit systems in the world and you’re taking 5 taxis a day?

If you’re wondering why every single comment in this thread is mentioning this, it’s because it’s absolute craziness.

  5. Once you arrive in Japan, you will learn very fast how to navigate the trains especially with smartphones. Taxis are very expensive and driving is a nightmare in some places. Enjoy your trip.
