Itinerary Check: First Time, Solo, March 24th – April 2nd (Tokyo, Kyoto)

Hi, I’ve been looking at the itineraries and advice on here for awhile and would love to get feedback on mine!

This will be my first time in Japan, first international trip, and I’ll be going solo. I don’t know much Japanese, just basic phrases. I’m interested in anime, Pokemon, fashion/streetwear, viewing the cherry blossoms, and trying a bunch of different food. Any seasonal snack suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Tokyo to Kyoto and back to Tokyo?
So u hv to take Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Kyoto and back to Tokyo. The tickets are quite expensive.

Tokyo is in Kanto region, and Kyoto is in Kansai.
So I recommend u to stay either Kanto or Kansai.

  2. I found that my pocket WiFi was unnecessary on a very recent trip

Depending on your carrier, just using their international roaming might make sense as my daily roaming charge was essentially equal to my pocket WiFi (yes I had both just to be on the safe side)

Cell coverage in Japan seems much better than it was even a few years ago

I had great coverage in Tokyo, Kyoto & on the train in between

After a few days I barely used the WiFi

  3. Maybe check out the Shinjuku area (Omoide Yokocho and Golden Gai) at night while you are in Tokyo.

  4. The dates may be spot on for philosophers path. I’m a few days earlier than you and I keep checking the sakura Navi prediction. It’s been hot these few days too

  5. Why do the JR Pass? You’re not really saving any money but limiting yourself to JR lines.

Why Shimokitazawa after the shinkansen back to Tokyo? I’d suggest staying closer to a shinkansen station and find another park nearby on your last day.
