YSK: If you have allergies, you can buy generic Allegra/アレグラ on Amazon for 7.5x cheaper.

Just search for アレルビ on Amazon. It’s the same thing as Allegra/アレグラ.

I noticed in the other allergy thread that many people were recommending アレグラ/Allegra. It’s great, but at ¥7,200 for 56 pills it’s expensive. Amazon sells アレルビ which is also just Fexofenadine/フェキソフェナジン. For 56 pills, it’s currently ¥958. It was ¥837 when I bought it last week so I’m not sure if the price changes a lot.

You can always go to the doctor, but it’s honestly a hassle just to get a prescription.

If someone knows the generic for Zyrtec/ContactZ (セチリジン) please let me know!

  1. Does it actually work? I’m leery about buying generic drugs on Amazon of all places.

  2. Has anyone had any luck buying generic allergy meds from Costco?
I know you can do it in the US

  3. I find アレジオン works well for me*. Is that the same thing?

*When I actually remember to take it.

  4. Yup, I find it works about the same as Allegra, just much cheaper. The regular western dose for 24 hours is 180 mg, whereas this is the Japan sized dose of 60 mg, so 3 of these = a Western sized 180 mg dose.

Although it is the weaker of the commonly available antihistamines, fexofenadine (Allegra) doesn’t cross the blood brain barrier so doesn’t make you sleepy.

If you have hay fever or other crazy allergies, and you want a night time sleepy product, Amazon Japan sells restamine which is a 1st generation antihistamine (diphenhydramine), so that’ll make you a bit sleepy at night and hit your allergies at the same time. (Diphenhydramine does cross the blood brain barrier, so makes you sleepy. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is a stronger antihistamine than fexofenadine/Allegra, but with the added sleepiness side effect).
