Proof for proof of address?

Made the move, setting myself up in Tokyo with a rental soon. The residence card I received at the point of entry listed TBD as the address. When I go to the local government office to register my address what docs do I need to prove I live where I live? Sorry, but couldn’t find an English page for my government office to explain this and I would love to be done in one trip if I could…

  1. I don’t think you actually need to bring proof to register at the ward office.

But make sure that when you register, get a few copies of a “juuminhyo”, which is a certificate from the ward office that you will definitely need for proving your address to other places. It’ll likely cost ¥400-600 yen for each copy, bring cash.

  2. In Katsushika Ward, for example, you need to bring a copy of the rental contract or the phone number of someone at the management company who can verify that you will indeed move in and stay somewhere for at least 3 months.
