How do Japanese children perceive Momotaro, from Momotaro story?

As a foreigner, I always wondered how Japanese children were or are taught about Momotaro Story ?

Do children relate to **Momotaro character** as themselves and other characters as character of their friends ?

Can all Japanese people share their thoughts on this..

  1. It’s too short of a tale to really identify with a character. It’s a fairy story, not a novel.

  2. Much like how western children relate to Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk, not really. It’s a moral story of camaraderie and one might draw parallels to themselves and their friends but it’s not something we think about
