Kyoto travel tips

Hi everyone.

My parents are planning to come visit me and we want to go stay in Kyoto for two days.

1) what is a good area to stay at? We’re definitely going to be using public transportation a lot.

2) places of interest include Kiyomizu dera, fushimi inari, arashiyama bamboo forest and possibly kinkakuji. (Pretty standard tourist attractions I guess)

If there are any other tourist attractions (or even the lesser known ones) you can recommend, I’d love to know!

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Kyoto.

  2. If you find yourself tempked snd shrined out…

In the afternoon after the bamboo forest. Take the scenic train that leaves nearby and heads up the valley on the old train line.

At the top end you can catch the regular train all the way back to central on the new line.

  3. The area around JR Kyoto station is good. Easy access to JR, busses, and subway.

That’s a good list of places. I like taking people to 三十三間堂, personally, as it’s so unique.
