What’s the best way to quit my job at aeon ?

  1. 1. Make sure you have something else lined up.
    2. Re-read your contract to see if there are any clauses regarding housing etc
    3. Tell your manager “My last day is going to be _____”

  2. Buy a scratch card and pretend you won a billion yen, then scream, “I’M RICH!!” and tell all your coworkers everything you hate about them and to go to hell. Finish it off with your loudest, “I QUIT!!!” and walk backwards out of the building with both middle fingers in the air.

  3. “Dear Aeon,

I, OppositeSignature528, hereby resign from my position with Aeon effective immediately / on [date].

Thank you for the opportunity to work here.

    Sincerely,

    Opposite Signature 528”

  4. If you don’t have a contract the standard two weeks sounds fine. If there was anyone that liked your work there you may be able to use them as a reference later.

If you have a contract the 1 month notice may be required.

Make sure you’re stable before you quit a job though

  5. There must be 50 ways to leave eikaiwa. You just slip out the back, Jack. Make a new plan, Stan. You don’t need to be coy, Roy. Just get yourself free.

  6. Someone should correct me here, but I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to get a taishoku shomeisho (resignation certificate) on your last day. Though, I forgot and it never became a problem. Maybe since most ALT/Eikaiwa are just contracted freelancers, you don’t actually need one since you’re technically “not employed” in the first place.

I dunno. I don’t mean to spread misinformation.

  7. Sometimes they try to buy time by asking you to have a meeting with them or saying that you didn’t properly fill out some in-house resignation letter. Make sure to say that even if you talk about it or refill the form, the last day *will not change*.

  8. IMO just tell your direct supervisor and give them your notice with an end date. That or wait ’till your contract expires and bail.

Alternatively if you’re aggrieved with them… pack-up your gear, book a flight, call a taxi in the night and piss off without telling anybody. Make sure you lose the key to your apartment and accidentally leave the door glued shut.

  9. As a few people have already said, make sure you have a new job lined up **before** you let anyone at AEON know that you’re even considering leaving. This is especially important if you plan to remain in Japan. Also having a Japanese phone number (if you don’t already) and secure a new apartment if you’re living in one rented to you by AEON.
AEON will make your life *much* *harder* if you do not have these things done before giving notice, they only want you to leave on their terms.

Re-read your contract and make sure there’s nothing you’ve overlooked.

E-mail your school’s manager (CC: all your superiors above the manager as well such as area trainer, area manager, ect) after speaking with them about your resignation to reiterate that you are leaving. Do not give any specific reasons for your decision as regardless of what it is they will use it against you.
Maybe use any unused paid days off in the remained of your contract (just make sure to actually come in on the last day to pick up the paperwork.

Make sure to request paperwork such as the Taishoku Shoumeisho and Gensenchoshuuhyou as you will need these for your taxes as well as to submit to your future employers.

    Run and never look back.
Good luck in your new, better life!

  10. If you are still in your first year-long contract, they may require you to give at least one month notice.

As others have said, have something lined up. Don’t tell anyone where you’re going.

Although tenant law in Japan is pretty solid and they can’t evict you for a while, it’d be nice for you if you up and moved to your own place once resigned.

You won’t get your end of contract bonus, so just a heads up on that.

  11. I’ve seen it mentioned, but I really cannot stress enough the “find a new apartment” part. It’s most likely going to be more difficult than finding a new job *and* it’s probably going to eat your last paycheck.

I imagine this wouldn’t happen at aeon, but once I told a company that I was quitting in 3 weeks and they said “nah, be out of the apartment by the weekend.” If I didn’t have my shit together I would’ve been seriously fucked. Make sure you’ve got all of your ducks in a row before you pull the trigger.

  12. I’m so shocked at the comments, is AEON a black company or something? Ya’ll make it sound like they need to go into witness protection

  13. Step 1: Put resignation letter on boss’ desk.
Step 2: Say “Death before dishonor.”
    Step 3: Perform seppuku.
Step 4: Haunt office as a “Grudge” monster.
