Two Japanese men and a woman believed to be involved in a series of special fraud cases in which Japanese men were deported in February have been newly arrested in the Philippines.
The suspects, Kairi Fujita (24) and Hitomi Kumai (25), were taken into custody by officers of the Philippine Immigration Department in charge of searching for fugitives in Metro Manila on the afternoon of 10 January.
According to the officials, the two were ‘kakeko’ members of a criminal gang, including the suspect Yuki Watanabe, who was deported from a detention centre in Manila for a series of special fraud cases, of which the suspect Fujita was the organizer of one ‘kakeko’ group.
In September 2022, an arrest warrant was issued in Japan for the two on suspicion of theft.
