Sharehouse with native English speakers

Hello!

I am from the UK and I arrived in Japan on a working holiday visa just over 3 weeks ago.

Currently I am staying at World unite’s sharehouse and I am starting to think about where I would move afterwards. I would like to find somewhere where most people living there are native speakers as where I am currently at is full of Germans and sometimes I feel proper awakened when they are all talking in a different language.

I know I am in a working holiday and I am meant to be finding out about different cultures but I would be nice to meet some people I could relate to. With that in mid could anyone recommend me a good place for someone wanting to meet people from countries where English is the first language? Failing that, can anyone tell me about good ways to meet up with people or places to go out to I order to find other native English speakers.

  1. You don’t go to another country where English isn’t the primary language to find native English speaking friends unless you’re mentally insane.

Try learning the native language like the rest of us and use it, it’s not that hard all things considered.

  2. I’m also British and have been here for a few years so I understand sometimes it’s nice to talk to someone who gets sarcasm etc. But this isn’t Thailand where British and Australians congregate, it will be a big mix of people from around the world.

If you are in Tokyo try “spontaneous events” or “Amigos” there will be people from native English speaking countries. But I mean you have only been here for 3 weeks and maybe you haven’t experienced being abroad for long periods of time before. If so I’d suggest using this time to learn to not feel weird about hearing people speak in other languages. There are plenty Americans, Brits, Australians etc. around but I think you’ll find a lot more international people.

  3. Sharehouses have random people from all over the world. If you don’t want to hear German, go hangout outside of the house. There are events or cafes you can go speak English.
