  1. Hi, I came across this sentence in the Dragon Quest 3 [script](https://nayukaaaaa.nomaki.jp/wp/dq4/dq32.html) and I’m wondering about it.

    > 私は日いずる国より来た者。国では八又ノおろちなる怪物がおり申して皆困っていまする。

I’m a little confused by this sentence. Is this supposed to sound like old-fashioned Japanese?

    > 日いずる

I don’t actually know what this part is at all.

    > 国より来た者

He’s saying his from whatever country 日いずる is

    > 八又ノおろち

This seems like it would be the name of a monster, but I’m not sure why you would mix kanji and both types of kana in that particular way. My guess is this is はちまたのおろち.

    > 怪物がおり申して皆困っていまする。

I think he’s saying that everyone is in trouble because of this monster, but what is even going on with that sentence ending?

    At any rate, I’m confused.

  2. Greetings, I’m currently on chapter 18 of genki 2 so working my way towards N4. I’ve been reading through the free tadoku readers and I can read level 2 fairly quickly and only have to search up some words in level 3 readers. What do you all recommend as the next step/source in reading where I don’t have to stop every sentence for vocab?
I have a Japanese bookstore somewhat close by so I’m not opposed to buying books/manga.

  3. What “kind” Japanese do they use in one piece? There’s times I can understand them but other times I can’t. Is it some kind of pirate dialect?

  4. Just saw an advert saying「 清々。堂々。清らかなる傑作。」and I was wondering why it was 清らかなる and not 清らかになる

  5. I have another question from the [dragon quest 3 script](https://nayukaaaaa.nomaki.jp/wp/dq4/dq32.html)

A pirate says this to the party:

    > 俺達は七つの海を股に駆ける男だ。

If I’m reading this right it says something like…”We are the men who run our crotch through the seven seas” but that must not be right

  6. Any free online Japanese Elementary School level textbooks available? No English, only Japanese. Maybe around the level starting Kanji?
