Can I stay past a working holiday visa?

I explicitly asked stepabroad(the program I’m going to use) if I could and they said not from their program. But it should still be possible right?

  1. If you find another suitable arrangement and legally switch your status in the country. But you can’t just overstay your WHV after it expires.

  2. It depends on the specific agreement between your country and Japan.

Many agreements specifically do not allow you to change your status, such as the UK. If you are from such a country, then at end of your working holiday you’d need to leave. You could of course return afterwards as a tourist or after getting another visa.

If the agreement with your country does allow you to change your status then you’d need to qualify for another status of residence and request a change to it. If this request is rejected, then you’d need to leave.

  3. Depending on your country you may have to renew your working holiday every 6 months, up to three times.

As for staying over that, unless you change your visa, the answer is no.
