Bringing medication to Japan

Hello,

I am moving to Japan for school in a few weeks time (I know it’s short notice, I just found out from my school) and I need to bring in some of my medication. As far as I know I need to fill out a Yunyu Kakuni-sho form, but the web form isn’t working and I can’t log back in to my account after I log out. Am I doing this the right way? I need to give two weeks advance notice and to be honest I’m starting to get worried. Have any of you dealt with this before and do you have any advice? Thanks in advance!

  1. Just fill out the form and email it to the closest MLHW. I forget what the acronym stands for but you can look up the exact process on google, that’s what I did. You shouldn’t need to use the website, email is just as fast.

  2. Yup, what u/PeakPsycho100 said. Print the form out, fill it in manually with a pen, then scan it and your prescriptions to attach to an email. If you don’t have a scanner then a sharp, evenly lit photo should be fine. Make sure you include any supplementary information they ask for.

  3. I first emailed yakkan@mhlw.go.jp (use this email if landing in Narita or Haneda) with the completed form and any other information you’ll need to submit. I heard back from them pretty soon (I emailed on a Friday, they got back Sunday my time, so Monday in Japan) saying that they use the online form now ( https://impconf.mhlw.go.jp/aicpte/page/login.jsp?lang=en ) Was this the website you were directed to to use? It was confusing for me as well, but I created an account (not using the gBizID option) then basically re-filled in the application form and submitted my doctor’s prescription etc. Once submitted, I got my yunyu kakuni-sho about two days later.

If the web form isn’t working, this is the email I used when I had any questions: TDEN-aic-helpdesk@ml.toshiba.co.jp
