Subtitles on shows?

I’ve been wanting to watch some kids shows to help with my listening, but omg I can not find Japanese subtitles anywhere. First show I tried was Nyanbo on crunchy roll… no Japanese subs. Googled the original box set they don’t even have Japanese subtitles. Next was trying to find Kirby right back at ya with Japanese subs. Nope. And lastly I thought oh Pokemon on Netflix! They don’t even have a Japanese audio option!

I’m kinda in shock lol I was wondering if any of you know any kids shows (I’m looking for originally made in Japan shows) that have Japanese audio with Japanese subs. Or if I should just try using a VPN and that’ll give them to me ?

  1. There’s a site called animelon (might not quite have the name right) that has a great selection of anime with Japanese subtitles and a history/script as well.

Edit: typos, also a thousand people might have commented this already, Reddit has been down haha

  2. Netflix: in a browser go to your options a d change your profile’s language to Japanese.

All Netflix Originals will now have Japanese dubs and subs.

Kakegurui (the original anime) is pretty good about showing AND telling and is easy to follow for at least the first several episodes. It does have matching subs.

Virtually anything with a big N is going to have Japanese dubs and subs, but anything translated from English won’t have matching subs.

Corey Carson or w/e it’s called is pretty easy to follow despite non-matching subs.

You can probably also follow Word Party.

Shows like Carmen Sandiego, on the other hand, are going to be hard due to geographical and crime related vocab.

Try lots of different shows and things.

    Unfortunately, yeah, no pokemon.

Inuyasha doesn’t have Japanese subs (but I found it wasn’t too hard, surprisingly, despite that)

Ouran High School Host Club is the same as Inuyasha, no japanese subs but not too hard.

I don’t recommend Attack on Titan for this. No subs, lots of military vocab. Hard!

But yeah watch some Netflix Original Anime. And toy around with the translated stuff!

  3. There are a lot of anime (not sure if any with kid-like simple vocab) on Netflix with subs…not all of them have subs tho….since you mentioned crunchyroll, keep in mind crunchyroll does not offer jsubs at all…but there is an extension you can install called Jimaku player for CR but you have to find your own subs (the extension will load a subtitle file)…a benefit of that extension tho is you can put jsubs and English subs at the same time…you can also click words you don’t know and it will open a tab to jisho with the meaning

  4. Perhaps a VPN would be a good idea. When I watch Netflix, I can choose Japanese subtitles for all shows. (I think it’s for the hearing impaired).
