I’m hoping to understand this hand gesture (video)

When Yamamoto strikes out his former teammate and walks off the mound, he does a little hand gesture. I believe it’s a tongue in cheek sort of apology. But I thought I’d seen this before other places. He’s got his glove in his other hand, so is it just half of the hands together “prayer hands” apology gesture or its own thing? None of the copy pasta “Japanese gesture” videos out there include it. Any nuance is appreciated.

  1. Yes it is the apology gesture. One handed is a pretty common variation. It is actually used throughout the Pacific as well probably from Japanese influence.
