Warning: I think someone tried to scam me on this Subreddit.

So I got a message from someone asking if I lived in Japan. The next messages seemed a bit concerning…

“Myself from india and planning a solo trip to japan in April I have been trying to book a event but i couldn’t since I am not from japan and the event requires a Japanese phone number I’d really really appreciate if you could help me on this one I can paypal you the money and share my personal details”

Does this happen a lot? Not sure if it’s genuine or a scam.

  1. Safer to ignore messages and not even open them. Am embedded image, for example, could give away your IP address since you’d be the only one viewing it.

  2. I’ve had a few like that. I answer their general questions honestly (what to do in Japan, weather etc) but as soon as they get personal I politely excuse myself.

  3. This subreddit is not private. Anyone on the internet can see it. There are plenty of weirdos all over reddit that DM people weird shit. Just block them. Or report to reddit if you think they’re a scammer.

  4. Play reverse UNO . Ask them to send payment first at your paypal first. Then ignore .

  5. This is an actual thing, but there are services you can go to and pay for this. Before I arrived I wanted to book a concert for 3 days after I arrived so had to use them, was 750円 approx. If you get another you can just say thus
