Keep trying, especially other companies, reflect on what might have gone wrong, and don’t sweat it. I was rejected several times before I got to Japan. Been here 14 years now. You’ll make it.
They are going through a VERY rough transitional period after the recent buyout, so it’s possible they just can’t/won’t bring in people for a bit.
Keep trying elsewhere, you’ll find something.
Gaba downsized recently, then got bought out by Nova a few months back. They probably have too many teachers as it is

All your posts on this account are about GABA. You’re really putting all your eggs in one basket.
So…call them.
What do you want us to do?
Although if I’m being honest, that statement
>My whole life I wanted to come Japan
Is worrying. Partially because of the grammar, partially because…is coming to Japan really your life’s goal? Really? I would have picked tourism first.
I would say, take this as an opportunity to think about *why* you want to come to Japan so badly. And then pick an actual career you want to do, advance in that, and at some point it might lead to being able to come anyway. Getting stuck in the English teaching oubliette because ‘hey, at least I’m in Japan!’ is the last thing you want to do.
Try Lawson’s or FamilyMart they’ll hire anyone you’d have a better time working there than you would at GABA.
Try Lawson’s or FamilyMart they’ll hire anyone from south east Asia (not sure if they’d be willing to pay for your flight if you live too far away from Japan) and you’d have a better time working there than you would at GABA. McDonald’s Japan and BurgerKing also hire foreigners as do the big chain Hotels. I live in a UR and I met my neighbors recently from Nepal. They invited me up to their apartment to have a beer. There were 15 of them living in a 3LDK. The “boss” of the apartment is a full-time employee at the co-op stacking shelves. The rest of his roommates work at 7/11, FamilyMart, Nepalese/Indian restaurants. If I were you I’d try finding another way into Japan that isn’t Eikaiwa. Gaba was bought out by Nova recently and historically Gaba teachers have been famous for their model looks and expensive suits. Gaba is a “host” type English Speaking Eikaiwa. If you look good in a suit work for Gaba but if you’re on the plus side or tall you’ll have to stock up on suits before coming to Japan. Also if you have feet that are larger than 28cms you’ll have to pay for your Gaba fashion style shoes to be sent to you from overseas.
Don’t bother with Gaba. The teacher’s there fight like dogs over students. None of them have full-time contracts and looking your best is the only way to get a job/visa sponsorship with them.
You should visit Japan on vacation before moving here
they are merging with Nova and cutting 50% of both businesses. You only got interviewed because the HR people need things to do.
Perhaps it was your gaba inhibitors?
You want to come to Japan that bad I got you. There is an Eikaiwa called peppy kids club. They hire everybody. It’s not the greatest job but it will get you here. After that do what you want find another job quit. it’s not bad for 1 yr but I don’t recommend staying longer than that
Gaba has been a bigger shit storm than usual with the changeover (it was bought by a competitor, who is going through the process of changing management and gutting it).
Don’t stake your self esteem or any of your aspirations on the consideration of companies like Gaba. They are inconsiderate and incompetent anyway.
Keep trying. And when you get in, keep a labor union’s email on-hand in case any company tries to pull some wool over your eyes.
Ghosted how? Did you have an interview with them? I got rejected by them but they explained through a series of email conversation I had with them that it has something to do with my country of residence. We have some strict rules when it comes to direct hiring.
I went with Heart because it is literally the easiest way to get into Japan as they will hire anyone. I arrived in April and thus far have had no issues with them at all so far. The pay is what you would expect as most ALT dispatch companies only pay peanuts (other than JET), but it has been enough for me to live on, pay my expenses and still save a small amount each month (making sure to keep some aside for September-October as in August you basically don’t work at all over the Summer break and don’t get paid for it). But all my pay has come into my bank account each month at the same time and the payslip they send each month has a clean breakdown of how it’s paid out with taxes, pension, insurance deductions etc clearly noted. So yeah, easy company to get in the door with and then you will have much more options once you are in Japan.
They are are hiring all year round, since I’ve been here they have been advertising for available roles all over non stop. Although, if you are applying for November-December, it is likely they wouldn’t start you at the chosen school until the start of the final term i.e. Mid January – end of March as the schools break from about Christmas time till mid January and even if you rushed things they would still want to do the basic orientation, finish up final paperwork etc before you start. But by all means you can apply at anytime and they should still go through the standard process as usual without delay, especially now borders are about to open up completely.
It’s just a rude way of an employer letting you know they won’t hire you. Also you have to consider your credentials and what’s on your CV. If the employer thinks you wasted their time, they most likely will not get back to you.
