Hi everyone, like the title suggests, my landlord has been ignoring my emails and not returning my deposit. Even my agent couldn’t get a hold of him. He has been ignoring us. I moved out in October 2022, it is now March.
A bit more details:
1. I had to pay a 敷金 cause I’m foreigner. Japanese tenants don’t have to.
2. When I was moving out I asked the landlord about it he responded saying I have no deposit with him. So I sent him screenshots of my contract showing that I indeed did pay my deposit.
Since then he has been ignoring all my emails. The agent and I only have an email address to contact him. No number to call or anything. That or his address, which I am considering heading down but I wanna see what else I can do before I have to travel to Chiba. Anyone has had the same problem and what did you guys do?

I’m sorry to hear that. I haven’t experienced this myself but maybe it would be worth consulting a lawyer?
If it’s in your contract and you have proof you paid for it, the landlord won’t have a leg to stand on
You sure they didn’t keep your deposit when you moved out?
Consult with the consumer affair center (消費者センター), they’re there to protect your right from wrongful landlords. They can help you navigate through the necessary law. Good luck, you deserve your money back.
