Immigration and baggage claim time at Narita

I have a friend coming to pick me up when I land and I want to give him an accurate time for when I’ll be through immigration and stuff. I’ve done everything that can be down online to speed up the process but they’re gonna issue me my residence card and stuff when I land so how long can I expect to take get through? I”m landing at 13:00 if that makes a difference.

  1. Depends on how congested the immigration counters are, but roughly 1h to 1h30m should be enough?

  2. 13:45 is my best guesstimate for your friend to come and wait.

Plus, it’s better that you’re the one waiting and not your friend.

  3. Took me about 45 min. Most of that was waiting in the immigration line. Issuing the zairyu card is done very quickly. Customs was basically nothing.

  4. The lines at Narita airport move rather quickly, you shouldn’t be there for more than 1 hour, 1.5 top.
Make sure you fill all your paperwork beforehand (i.e. while on the place) so you can get out even quicker.

  5. what about early morning arrivals? a friend will be arriving at around 7:30am and I don’t wanna leave the house at 6:30am

  6. My best is 20 minutes from being able to walk out of the plane to arrival lounge, no checked luggage.

1-1.5 hours should be a good estimate for a person with checked luggage and no fast pass for resident foreigner.
