Shipping moving boxes home

Hey all,

I’m leaving Japan and having a really hard time finding a service to ship boxes of stuff home. It seems like a lot of the services and rules have changed in the past few years, and I’m stuck.

I’ve lived here for years, so I have a lot of things to ship. No furniture, but some books, electronics, etc. Here are some of the problems I’ve run into:

Kuroneko Yamato:

\- Yamato is trying to discourage people from using their regular international shipping service for overseas moves.

\- Yamato’s actual moving service is completely booked and **not accepting customers**.

\- Yamato will no longer ship devices that use **lithium-ion batteries**. Even if you remove the battery.

\- If you do ship anything with Yamato, they will only pick-up **2-3 boxes at a time**. The only alternative is taking (heavy) boxes to a shipping center myself.

Japan Post:

– You have to create shipping labels online. When you do this, only **Surface (Sea Mail)** is an option for Small Parcels.

\- Sea Mail takes minimum two months. Some postal workers have said **up to 6 months**!

\- The weight limit is **2kg** (4.4 lbs)!

\- The FAQ for sending boxes over 2kg, says to use JP Toll Logistics. This is **only for businesses**, not individuals.

Is there something I’m missing here?

Is there another company that ships large boxes overseas in under two months?

Is it possible to do the above with Kuroneko Yamato or Japan Post somehow?

Really appreciate anyone’s experience or advice. I’ve been working on this for a while and I’m running out of time.

  1. I dont know where you got this info about JP only shipping sea mail. I just sent two packages of clothing back home with no issues.
