Applications for the JLPT start on Friday 24th March. Oh! They have just announced that the fee has increased again. It is now 7,500 yen….

  1. If they keep increasing the price they’re gonna start losing test takers. An even better reason to study up to pass N1.

  2. What a joke. The low levels were barely worth it at 6000, but I’m not interested in paying through the nose for a certificate to say I’m bad at Japanese.

  3. Makes it even funnier to think about people that take it to get completely worthless certifications like N4 or N5

  4. You get a postcard notification with your photo and results on it. I think that’s proof enough for job application purposes etc. But if you want something to put on your wall then you need to pay extra for the certificate. It’s been that way for as long as I remember.

  5. Is this test necessary for anything? Just wondering. I’ve been here for almost 25 years and never took that test.

  6. 7.500¥ and they are still using only one dynamic in the room for the listening section, while most international tests provide personal headphones…A joke.

  7. That’s the second year in a row that the price has gone up…

Honestly debating if I should bother, I’ve not studied anywhere near enough to pass N1 yet but maybe if more people try winging it, it will bring the average down so maybe I’ll be in with a chance? Hahaha, maybe I should start cramming now…
