Itinerary Check: 10 days in Tokyo, small trip to Fuji, first time traveler.

Hello everyone,

My girlfriend and I are going to Japan next week for her friend’s wedding, and will spend 10 days in total between the wedding and other activities that we want to do in Tokyo. Here is a rundown of our intinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Tokyo at 3:00 p.m after 11 hour flight. Buy Suica Pass and pick up tickets to Mt. Fuji at airport. Take Narita Skyaccess and then Musahino line to hotel, arrive around 6:00 p.m or so. Do our best to stay awake and adjust to the local time, but will be taking it easy for the rest of the day.

Day 2: Akihabara

* Take Keiyo line and then Hibiya Line to Akihabara Station at 10:00 a.m.
* Maid Cafe reservation at from 11:30a.m-12:30 p.m, very close to station so not much walking to get there.
* Shop at Pokemon Center Mega, Animate Akihabara, explore other stores
* Relax at Kanda Myojin Shrine
* Tokyo Skytree reservation at 7:00 p.m, eat dinner at the top
* Back to hotel after Skytree

Day 3: Shinjuku

* Take Keiyo and then Rinkai/Saikyo line to Shinjuku Station, arrive around 10:00 a.m
* Ninja Trick House reservation at 11:00 a.m
* Explore Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, get lunch
* Visit Meiji Memorial Museum after lunch
* Owl Cafe in late afternoon around 3:00-4:00 p.m
* Dinner at Golden Gai(?)(Neither of us are drinkers, but would there be food options?)
* Back to hotel after dinner

Day 4: Shibuya

* Not really 100% sure what to do yet, but will probably visit Nintendo Store and other shops and just explore around. Open to any suggestions.

Day 5 and 6: Wedding Day and Tokyo DisneySea will be taking up all day.

Day 7: Mt Fuji

* Already have reserved tickets for Kawaguchiko via Fuji Excursion at about 12:00 noon. Will spend the morning getting ready, so no major activities outside of our hotel aside from getting breakfast. Take train to Shinjuku Station from our hotel and then Fuji Excursion.
* Check into Ryokan near Kawaguchiko, already reserved (I have tattoos, will probably need to keep them hidden, right?)
* Nothing else really planned aside from exploring around and having a relaxing getaway from the city after the wedding and Tokyo DisneySea.

Day 8: Return to Tokyo, Ueno Park

* Take Fuji Excursion back to Shinjuku around 10 a.m. Rest of day will be spent at Ueno Park visiting the museums and zoo before heading back to hotel.

Day 9: Sanrio Puroland

* Take train to Shinjuku, then Keio line to Sanrio Puroland, arrive around 11:00 a.m
* After Puroland, have dinner near Shinjuku station and then back to hotel, or spend more time exploring around the area near Puroland.

Day 10: Final Day

* Leaving this day open until 4:00, when we have a reservation at teamlab Planets. Will use the day to either revisit a district or try something new that we discover.

Day 11: Flight leaves early morning.

To prepare, I have had my phone unlocked and will be using an esim from Ubigi. I have a power bank and 2 charging cables that I will bring for both of our phones. I plan on carrying a backpack and umbrella, and keeping my passport in a zipped or buttoned pocket on my pants. I know that Japan is mostly cash-based and I plan on spending about 50-80 thousand yen during the trip. If anyone has feedback on my itinerary or advice based on what I have planned, I am open to suggestions. This is my first trip to Japan as well as my first trip out of my country (USA) so I might run into challenges, but I am very excited to be spending 10 days in Japan.

Where is your hotel ? because Musashino line is a semi-loop line quite far away from the center of town, and Narita Skyaccess line won’t bring you anywhere near a Musashino Line stop. You mention Keiyo line after that, so I’m guessing somewhere around Funabashi in Chiba ? Anything special there ? You may want to check if there are any buses going to your hotel from the airport

Anyway, don’t expect to be at your hotel in 3 hours by train. 3 hours after landing is what you need to reach a place in central Tokyo if you know what you’re doing…

    >Dinner at Golden Gai(?)(Neither of us are drinkers, but would there be food options?)

There are very, very, limited food options (and mostly stuff to absorb the alcohol), it’s not a place to eat, but a place to drink. Maybe 2/3 or more of bars won’t have anything besides a small snack. And it won’t get busy before 8 or 9pm or so.

I’m quite curious, you’re not the first person mentionning Golden Gai to “eat”, is it mentionned in some touristic guides abroad as a place for dinner ?

  3. Vintage Shopping in Shimokitazawa – Trefacstyle, 2nd Street, Kindel and many others.

There are also a bunch of similar stores around Shibuya and Harajuku.

We literally took a 3/4 empty checked suitcase with us because we knew we were going to shop, and we still had to get another bag to take everything home.
