Has anyone recently gotten a cybersecurity/infosec job in Japan or know how the industry is like there? Posts from 1-2 years ago suggest that security is not prioritized in Japan but I’m curious if that has changed a bit, especially in light of the Ukraine war. Or gotten worse.

For reference:
* JLPT N1
* Can speak business level Japanese/Keigo
* Native level English
* Bachelors degree (non-IT)
* Security certs (Security+, OSCP)
* Compliance/GRC certs (ITIL, PCI DSS, etc.)
* 3 years in general IT (support/GRC)
* 2 years of experience as a penetration tester

Penetration testing is the subspecialty in security I’d like to work in Japan as. Or are jobs (if they exist) mostly geared towards blue teaming/GRC? Would I need more experience?

I’d reach out to some recruiters or check Rakuten, Mercari, or LINE. Also international companies (banks, big tech, etc.) seem to be really in need of pen testers in Japan.
