I see a lot of sacks of dry rice at shops but I don’t know the differences and what to buy. It looks like a wine experience and I want to learn more. Are there rice tasting shops where I can buy bowls of cooked rice to taste? Like how you can go to that one egg place and taste different kinds of egg.

This seems like a post about shopping, maybe your question is solved by [the wiki page](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/wiki/shopping)?

I think the easiest thing to do would be to simply go to the biggest supermarket in your area and buy a bunch of the ready made rice packets – they’re cheap and you can sample one rice for a meal. I did this and discovered I prefer the genmai rice as it’s got more bite to it. Then once you know you can buy it in a big bag.
You could buy single serving packs. I saw them at Aeon in the rice section.
I don’t have the answer but would like to know more about the egg tasting place you are referring to!
Just like wine where the wine itself is not the only factor in taste, (type and shape of the glass, preparation of the wine, storage, age etc.), just buying a particular type of rice is not the only factor in the overall taste.
Once you find a rice you like, you also have to think about storage, age, quality and amount of water, cooking time and quality of rice cooker.
What I would be really curious to try is having someone prepare exactly the same rice in a ¥20,000 rice cooker versus the rice cookers that are over ¥100,000. Can anyone vouch for a huge increase in quality?
You can compare five different kinds of rice here.

There are many stores that sell an assortment of different kinds of eggs to go.
Search for “卵 食べ比べセット”.
Also, this is my favorite restaurant, where they offer different brands of delicious rice on different days.

Moderators tell me not to link to it, so copy and paste to find it. Sorry.
Is that egg place for chicken eggs or all sorts like duck, pheasant and quail? Never heard of such a thing!
This place sells rice form all over and is frequently in the media. I live nearby but since we get all our rice form the in-laws, I’ve never bought rice in a shop. Suzunobu Project Rice
