For anyone who has done or know anyone who has done an IVF in Japan, about what was the price for the entire process? We are being quoted 20万. Thank you.
I think the government is going to start covering some of the costs, because 200,000 yen is hella cheap. Usually it’s around 1 million – 3 million depending on how difficult your situation is.
It costed us 70万円 out of pocket. Now insurance is covering it so 20万円 is reasonable. (You pay 30% of the total so the real cost is probably around 67万円)
One advice, if you are going to do it, go for the best of the best. Because the process is tedious and it costs almost the same everywhere for the base treatment.
If you are in tokyo, Kato clinic in Shinjuku is the best and in the top 10 worldwide.
I did IVF for my first baby. It cost us 30万, but half was covered so it was a total of 60万。
I’m doing IVF for the second time in April/May and because I’m 38, it’s now completely covered under the national health insurance scheme. I know that the government was aiming to cover the procedure from April of this year, regardless of age, so you might want to wait a couple of weeks.
Please don’t hesitate to comment here to PM me for more information. I had a fantastic experience with IVF in Japan and happy to help.
It depends as well on how well it goes. Harvesting eggs, how many eggs, how many eggs turn into viable embryos, how many of those will nest, how many of those will get born alive. One go will get you between 0 and 10 eggs, I think. Let’s say you get 4 eggs, then adding sperm will get you for example 2 high level embryos, 1 low and one very low quality. If one of those 2 takes, then you can get a kid or even two “in one go”. If those two do not take however, you may be back to square one.
I think in total we spent close to 100万 in 2021, from start to finish, with success on every step. Government came with 30万 subsidy, so 70万 in the end.
Looking forward to the insurance cover the next time.
I did IVF in japan. My total was about 18万 but that’s because my husband has MFI. I didn’t need to do any comprehensive testing outside of the initial testing. 30% out of pocket and 70% covered by insurance.
Be aware that the insurance route might have a set regimen and medication cycle versus non-insurance. If you’re looking to do medicated vs non medicated, also if you decide to test your embryos or not (not covered and I heard it’s really pricey).
