a while back i bought some ” made in Japan ” chopsticks. Since i have been out of practice i thought i would attempt to translate the directions on the back.
So far i have only done the main header , and one of nine steps / lines.
Main Header : 取り扱い上の注意
Line 1 step 1 :
使用後は早目に湯又は水
で洗って 柔らかい布等で水
分を扌式き耳又って下さい。
My final translation, that i felt was close to what they were trying to get across :
> ATTENTION : Handle from the top
>Please use water or hot water immediately after use.
Hand wash with soft cloth, etc. and water for one minute until clean.
Learning Kanji for me has been difficult . It has only been until now that i finally got the hang of using my Kanji dictionary. Even so on some words trying to find them using radicals has been kicking my butt.
FOR example 扌式 , on the packaging it looks like one kanji . But i was only able to find them separately . Was my translation for this correct ?
is 扌式き supposed to be ” tashiki ” ?
This one 洗って i deduced it to be aratte ( can someone confirm ? )
If i remember correctly when it ends in ” tte ” it is in the past tense ?
は was also confusing me a bit . I remembered that you had to read it as “wa” when in a sentence . My question is when would i read it as ” ha ” ? When it’s part of a word , that is at the beginning of a sentence ? Or do all words beginning with ” ha ” use kanji ?
耳又って this i translated as ” come off “. But i decided to go with “until clean”. ( can someone confirm if it’s said as Totte ?)
How close did i come to what it actually says ? Thank you for any pointers.
I used :
The Learner’s Kanji Dictionary ( 1st edition , 1998, Tuttle)
Japn-Eng, Eng-Japn Dictionary ( 1997, Random House )
Genki 1 (2nd Edition , 2011, thejapantimes )
Jisho.org
JED app ( helped in looking up radicals )

The word is 拭[ふ]く meaning to wipe.

>ATTENTION : Handle from the top
I’m kind of shocked that nobody pointed this out yet, but 取り扱い上の注意 just means “instructions for use” (definition #2 [here](https://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/word/en/%E4%B8%8A/#je-35198)). It doesn’t have anything to do with “the top” in a literal, physical directional sense.
The part after that, says, quite simply “As soon as possible after use, please wash with hot or cold water and wipe off the water with a soft brush or the like.”
No offense, but it seems like you’re just guessing at the meaning of the sentence based upon the words and not really understanding how the sentence is put together in any meaningful sense. (Judging from the fact that you don’t seem to understand what the -て form of verbs is.)

I suggest you put more effort into learning the fundamentals of the language before trying to “translate” things.
Only thing not mentioned yet – 水分 just means water/moisture here, 分 does not always mean “minute”.
No offense but you thought “て” form is past tense. Go back and actually learn the fundamentals of the language instead of trying to “translate”…
