Is the right side of stairs for fast people ? I’ve seen in many videos and websites that people do a line on the left side of stairs but I can’t figure out if they just walk all on one side or if the right side is a fast track such as in many other countries

  1. Stand on the left, pass on the right. Unless you’re in Osaka where they do the opposite because Osaka.

  2. Are you talking about stairs or escalators? There’s no “fast” side of stairs. There’s an “up” side and “down” side usually denoted by arrows.

There’s is unofficially a walking and standing side for escalators, and the side is the opposite between the Kanto and Kansai regions. Officially, there has been a push for “no walking” on escalators but everyone still follows the standing/walking rules.

  3. Usually there is a sign.

However, I usually avoid the side with handrails if only one side has handrails as kids and elderly will be using that side

  4. Yes. If you are going slow on stairs or standing still on an escalator then keep left.
