What do you all think of Jon Moxley’s G129 run?

  1. Very fun G1 run in my opinion. Obviously, he was going to be booked strong. I would like to see him again in japan but that option isn’t possible now especially when he has a kid.

  2. Mox’s G1 was great and the perfect career reboot after he left WWE. Not saying he wouldn’t be a star or draw or anything like that without it but it was a definite statement which absolutely worked.

  3. Fun, with good matches against Naito, Shingo, Jay, and Juice

I think the Mox today would have an even better performance, though (not in terms of W/L but in terms of in-ring performance). He’s in his in-ring prime rn and it’d be a shame if he didn’t have one more try at it

Edit: as two users have reminded me, I can’t fucking believe I forgot the Ishii match which was clearly Mox’s best in the G1. Maybe it was so good I subconsciously decided I should mention other good matches he had.

  4. It was fucking fun. He had good matches, and a great rebrand that wasn’t too unrecognizable. All while living up to or beyond expectations.

  5. Started out epic but then he got a surprising defeat against Toru Yano and all went down hill for him since then.
    It was really bizarre.

  6. One of the best things he ever did in his carreer.

Mox in NJPW feels a shit ton better than AEW Mox.

Hell, almost everything looks better in NJPW.

  7. Just more proof rich people can do whatever they want. Wake up people! He kidnapped a man on live tv and no one even tried to stop him!

  8. Well, I’m going the other way of the comments here. Everybody looks better in NJPW. Had his greatest match there (against Ishii, not surprising), but I wouldn’t care at all if he never appears again. He brought audience, but some of them were very annoying. It was worse when he won his first five matches and people couldn’t stop speculating that a outsider would win the G1. I would rather have a hard working low-card NJPW wrestler to be the jobber in the G1 than him appearing there again.
Ps: I also think he’s dogshit

  9. It was fun. They got a lot of mileage out of him I think. A lot of memorable moments, Ishii splashing him through a table and the Yano stuff, standing side by side with Okada etc. He’s not my personal favourite in-ring he did a lot better than Cody etc imo. Plus pairing him with Shota was pretty ingenious, they got a lot of mileage out of that too.

  10. Fun contrast, but there was definitely an air of “He’s not clicking as clean as he should.”

Also, his match with Cobb was absolutely the worst of the G1.

  11. What happened to his physique? He looks so much worse now than he did in this pic

  12. It was so fun. I miss those days a lot. I miss how he looked here as well, I know he took a break to get clean which is awesome but his physique, and appearance (hair, tan, gear etc) was on point.

As someone that’s been a fan of Mox for over a decade, this is my personal favorite run of his.

  13. Mox was giving off Stan Hansen vibes to me the whole tournament, they way he would come in and just bum rush his opponents and start beating the piss out of them.

I still can’t believe how he pretty much dominated Shingo in their match and also brutalized Ishii.

  14. The Ishii match was sick. I went nuts when Ishii put him through the table. Overall, he wasn’t on the level of the top NJ workers, but it was fun.

  15. It was fun watching him compete in it, especially with the matches he had with Ishii, Shingo, and Naito. Competing in the tournament further helped reinvigorate him after departing WWE.

  16. Pretty much his peak, his aura has been obliterated completely appearing in matches every week for like two years straight bleeding in every other one.

  17. It was pretty good, Mox managed to have different matches with the different styles and characters.

  18. It was the best Moxley ….

The absolute best was Suzuki attacking him after a match and calling him “cocksucker”, and challenged him to a fight.

Unfortunately, Mox has fallen SO far from where he was during this run.

  19. Unpopular opinion: didn’t like it. I’m not crazy about Moxley. Happy for him getting out from under Vince’s thumb, but he does nothing for me. Mox’s G1 matches were like Regular Ordinary Swedish Meal Time. He got in there, did some rushed and sloppy gaijin tough guy shit, gave his opponents nothing, hit the Death Rider and left. IDK. I must be missing something. Just because Moxley had fun doesn’t mean what he did in the ring made any sense.

  20. At the time it was the most important thing going on in wrestling. He felt larger than life showing up in Japan and AEW.

  21. It was decent, and worked well as a change of pace from the usual G1. His matches were a bit more clumsy (in a good way), more brawly, and they fit their own little niche in the tournament.

That said, I’d also say it was far from the most notable thing that G1, quality-wise. Wasn’t bad, but wasn’t amazing either, minus one great match with Ishii. The rest of his matches ranged from alright to funny.

  22. For a guys first time in Japan it was fuckin amazing. I’m so happy he left WWE. Jon Moxley kicks ass

  23. It was a lot of run. A lot of great matches like the Ishii one, the one with Yano that gave us this [iconic](https://ibb.co/DwVnZ1R) reaction meme, and him just adopting Shooter which provided some good backstage moments. If he could or wanted to do another G1 run then I’d be all for it.

  24. It was fun. When Moxley just wrestles he’s very good.

I can’t stand to watch his current matches. Just weapons & blood for no reason. No escalation of a story or feud.

  25. That whole G1 climax was incredible. Jon Moxley’s run was as good as Jay White’s but flipped. Loved trunks Mox and wish we had him back.

  26. Disappointing. Had one great match with Ishii and that was about it. Everything else was kept short because of his poor conditioning and was average to good.

  27. Good but a little bit overrated even at that time. 2 standout matches against Ishii and Shingo. Rest of the matches were solid.

  28. Incredible, because here he was on this awesome run, and who does he lose to first?

THATS RIGHT, MY BOY TORU F’N YANO 😂

The promo he cut afterwards was golden

  29. John is easily one of my favorites. He also could probably be good at something outside of wrestling if the opportunity arose. He just has that “it” factor
