To people who consume NSFW materials alongside SFW materials for immersion, what kinds of vocabulary has actually stuck from the NSFW side?

I try to keep a variety of things to learn with, but I’ve been consuming more NSFW literature recently, and I’ve found some words that have previously had trouble sticking have now seen better luck. For example, I might find it a good idea to learn officework-related vocabulary if I want to become a サラリーマン or a 社畜 (笑). The words that I’d need for that do show up on vocab lists and I do use Anki to review them, but some words just haven’t stuck since I don’t see those problem vocab naturally and often enough elsewhere in my media. As for what actually stuck: words relating to job titles and positions (especially the 長s) and company structures (the 部s and the 課s). I got lucky with those ones since getting it on with bosses, secretaries and coworkers at the office is such a popular エロ漫画 and AV setup/scenario. I also picked up words related to moving out and renting out apartments from visual novels (which happened to have H-scenes every 5 chapters).

I had tried to look up people’s thoughts on this subject in more appropriate forums, but surprisingly, the users on places specifically for Japanese NSFW materials usually claim that most of what they knew came from “actually reading textbooks and studying.” It’s mostly the people of r/LearnJapanese who have been open and candid about learning directly from NSFW materials and claiming to get far. So, aside from the obvious human anatomy, sexual position, and bodily fluid vocabulary, what else have you guys learned from consuming NSFW stuff for your language studies that just didn’t stick from other venues of learning?

  1. 1. This sentence structure:

    結局(けっきょく)、彼(かれ)が解放(かいほう)されたのは、1時間(いち・じかん)も後(あと)のことであった。

Eventually, he was released an hour later (or better: only after an hour had already passed).

    2. Many more ways and contexts the particle は is used in

    3. The structure 〜し放題

And lots more which has proven to be quite useful and helpful so far.

  2. Lots of onomatopoeia, colloquialisms, and that-related vocabulary, as can be expected. But you learn more from reading than listening, I think. You also learn to read quickly. Actually, just read. Like literally, no matter what you do, just read. If it doesn’t stick, then look up the word, research its etymology, etc. The more you know about a concept and the more you make associations to other things you know the better it will stick. I’ve never had a word not stick unless I just wasn’t interested in that word enough to let it have a lasting impression on me.

  3. 啜る. Saw it in the kanji form, too. That’s how you know you’re reading the good stuff.

  4. Mostly Kanji, like 中, 出, 口 they’re simple themself, but that way they got stucked in my head

  5. I gotta thanks those NSFW doujins for my fluency in english. I woudn’t be here if wasn’t for them

  6. I’m currently reading a R-18 visual novel with a *lot* more aviation content than sex content. It doesn’t seem to be sticking as active vocabulary yet – yes 副操縦士 and 誘導路 have stuck, but I don’t remember at all how to say VOR (Very high-frequency Omnidirectional radio Range). Well, maybe there’s a 超短波 in there, actually yeah that’s right…

超短波全方向式無線標識 – I needed the dictionary for the rest

It’s like any other reading I guess – *great* for passive reading vocabulary but at best a foundation for other skills. The sex parts actually feel rather tacked on and tacky.

    べたべた

    lol, sorry

  7. I’ll be 101 and drooling in the nursing home unable to remember the names and faces of my loved ones but I’ll not have forgotten the word 気持ち

  8. I learned that パン、パン、パン。does not mean they are baking a lot of bread.

  9. A random list off the top of my head as a beginner who is learning through hammering my head through a lot of the stuff: 娼婦, 妊娠, 聖なる, 神道, スライム, 猫耳, 犬耳, 虜,剣, 膨れる, 命令, 女性, 猛々しい, 優れた, パンパン, 触手, 雄々しい, 奴隷, 杖, オーク, 印, 洗脳, 魔法使い, ヌルヌル, イク, 匂い. 濃厚, 王女, 王子, スケベ

It teaches させてもらう and させてください quite well too. You’ll see a lot of it

  10. Don’t neglect JAV, my dude. Watching for “Plot” has an interesting impact of making you forget you’re trying to understand what’s going on and then it can click.

The few words that stick out particularly: Hazukashi (Embarrassing) and, of all fucking things, Yatta (I did it); also Onani, which cracked me up because of all the loan word choices, they go with that one. I’m too lazy to switch to my JP keyboard.

  11. God I was Japan Circle Jerk was still around for posts like this. My Brother in Christ you cannot fap your way to N3.

  12. Definitely agree about vocab.

I’ve been intrigued when listening to interview portions of jav or something like aika telling you how to jerk off lol.

An example isマンズリandせんずりwhich I had no idea about until a few months ago. It was also helpful to know a bit about basic nsfw vocab before hanging out with friends.

I still think it’d be fun to make a course on nsfw japanese as I’ve seen some people teach taboo English, and it could lead to people being more motivated in learning imo.

  13. 前立腺、しゃぶる、ノンケ、オナヌー、発情期、勃つ are some the first that come to mind lol

  14. I’ve learned lots of slang like ヤリマン、ヤリチン、やり目and the such. Those were learned from classmates in japan teaching me them though.

  15. Excluding all the NSFW vocabulary it’s a pretty good litening practice, also I was amazed at how much I understod the 1st time I tried it.

  16. Recently heard this lady just kept repeating “hayai” to get this dude to take his pants off lol.. that stuck with me

  17. Embarrassingly, it was how I finally remembered ちゃう/ちゃった as in 「行っちゃった!」

  18. I learned a couple from my forex friends and my partner like:

    – けんじゃタイム Post nut clarity
    – ボッキ Boner/I’m hard
    – 叩かないで Don’t spank me (teasing)
    – ちょっと優しく be more gentle
    – ゴム condom

  19. I’ll never forget the word こねる for mixing with the fingers after watching a JAV where girls were competing to take each others bikini tops off and the loser get fingered in the pool and then one of the guys yells こねろ to the other guy who is two knuckles deep in the girl. Plus you learn other great words like パイパン, 熟女, 中出し, etc.

ブルセラ for used bloomers and sailor outfits (eg セーラー服) previously worn by schoolgirls is something I’ll never forget after doing a side mission in 龍が如く0 where a high school guy is freaking out that his GF is a hooker because she always has so much money but it turns out she’s just selling her panties to hentais. Also learned great words like チンピラ、兄貴、and who knows what else from those games.
