Good to look up NHK Easy Japanese words?

I’ve been studying Japanese for a few years and I haven’t yet to read an article from it due to me being able to understand it. I keep telling myself I’ll look at one when I understand more words but as I looked up some videos about Japanese studies and using Satori Reader as my first Japanese article app I’m thinking about reading it as I look up vocabulary from words I don’t understand on the go. But I’m worried that it isn’t the most effective since I can like only understand 20-30% at best and I would like to consider myself N5-N4 level so I’m a little worried that would slow my progress a lot. So yeah, just wondering if looking up words as I read would be effective even if I don’t understand many words.

Would it also be effective to look up and learn it’s Kanji as well or just learn it later on and prioritize even remembering first.

  1. You can skim an article to identify words you don’t know and write them all down in a list and look up all the definitions, then once you’ve done that, go back and actually read the article properly and you’ll have all the words ready in your list if you don’t remember what they mean. Should be a more enjoyable reading experience than looking up stuff one at a time as you go.
