Osaka Airport Immigration Question

Hey guys,

I am going to be moving to Osaka next week on a student visa and just had a couple of questions about the immigration process at KIX

1) My partner is bringing some medication with her – we are aware she can only bring up to one month supply but my question is with her Medication “technically” she can take up to 6 per day so in her mind she can bring up to 180 tablets for that Medication (even though she might only really need 1-5 per week) so she will probably be brining 30 or so tablets.

Just wanted to check if this is something that would be questioned by customs as she will be declaring it and is happy to get rid of any extras if they require her to. Is it just as simple as they check it and if need be they just dispose of anything they believe would be over the limit or is it more complex than that?

2) Just a rough description of the process of going through immigration for a long stay would be appreciated just so I have some idea of what to expect and how long it will take so I know what time I will be arriving where we are staying.

Thanks everyone

  2. If she has a prescription describing her dose of six tablets per day, that’s your proof. A drug that can range from one tablet per week to six per day, though, sounds rather questionable. Keep in mind if it’s something related to anxiety or depression, many of those drugs are illegal in Japan. If you can share what medication it is, people on this sub may be able to verify that for you.

You can bring far more than one month’s supply if you complete a Yunyu kakunin-sho. You would have to do it ASAP though.

Immigration isn’t too bad. You get to the counter, tell the person why you’re here, give them your passport and COE (probably letter of invitation from your school, too, but I’ll let someone who knows the process for a student weigh in here), and assuming you have everything in order, they take a picture and give you your residency card.
