I’ve been self learning Japanese for a Year and 1 month now. I’m a bit past halfway through level N4.
I have a friend who’s half Japanese and he can speak some but not write or read at all. He has a Japanese friend who he meets with sometimes to practice, they do half an hour in Japanese and half and hour in Dutch, that way they both can practice their target language.
He invited me to meet her today so that we can also do language exchange half an hour in Japanese half an hour in Spanish. I am excited but also very nervous, I’ve been having fake conversations with myself all morning and I feel like I suddenly don’t know how to properly form any sentence at all and like I’m not going to be able to talk any.

If it’s your first time doing this, that’s to be expected. Just give it your all, good luck!
It’ll be fine!
I also do this exchange, but we do one hour Japanese and one hour Romanian.
I was really anxious right before meeting since she didn’t speak other languages that well, but my Japanese really came out. I couldn’t believe it lmao. So don’t worry!!
As a Japanese, I have been learning English, so I think I can relate to you as a language learner. When I was worried about my fluency, I came across this TED video.

The video is about learning English, but I believe we can use the technique for all second language.
We don’t have to pretend to be fluent. Our goal is to convey our message to the other person and receive his/hers.
Ganbare!!!
