early hanami this morning before the return of the rain was great!!
Trying to stay positive despite day 3 of having a headache: it’s Payday and Friday!
Excited to go skating again tomorrow (couldn’t go last weekend because I had a terrible cold), and I’ve been getting back into drawing again. Looking forward to having a nice relaxing weekend, well, as long as I’m headache free.
Just want to give one more shout out to SAMURAI JAPAN on their WBC championship and awesome performance. While the games in Tokyo were fun to watch in front of the locals, the team showed the rest of the world their awesome talent! And yes, they beat the other teams I cheered for (I’m American with Mexican background) but the games were so much fun and exciting to watch. Now on to the REAL season!
I finally handed in my moving out notification by mail and online. The management company is supposed to get in touch with me to figure out the details, but is insanely incompetent and for some reason also refuses to do any form of 立ち合い with me. I see this as a win though because I got proof and don’t want to talk to them anyway. Worst case I’ll just move out and leave behind the key hah.
Mini vacation in Tokyo last weekend. It was great! Big cities are wonderful when you just visit and don’t have to live with all the downsides. Ethiopian dinner and cherry blossoms in Kamimeguro, Glitch coffee in Kanda, a run across the Rainbow bridge and back…
Makes me almost want to move to Tokyo. Almost.
When I moved into Japan just a year ago I had set myself a weight loss goal of about 10 kg. Checked the scale this morning and I’ve officially reached my target weight!
Calorie counting helped tremendously with this (as well as learning about nutrition), so now I can start phasing out the deficit I’ve been eating at to maintain that weight.
Did a vacation to Hiroshima and Fukuoka. Hiroshima was fantastic. Can’t wait for my trip to Nagasaki, whenever I get around to that.
Always happy with the kindness of Japanese people. Tried asking a posh British couple if a seat next to them in a cafe at the peace museum was open. They did their best to ignore my hello and question, while the Japanese dude next to me looked in awe and assured me it’s ok to sit down lmao.
Also had a short Convo outside the museum about 椿の花 with an older Japanese couple. Good times.
Edit: also want to mention that the peace museum in Hiroshima was fantastic. Highly recommend going and doing the audio guide as well.
I’m comfortable at home with my newborn baby boy and I love him so much, I already forgot the stress I went through birthing him last week. My husband, parents and siblings are all over the moon. Also my MIL is here and cooking lots of food/helping clean and give me company/watch baby when I want to take a nap (although my brain is tired from using Japanese all the time at the clinic for 8 days and now at home…)
– Pulling up dangerously close to the crosswalk on my bicycle has been working in getting cars to actually stop. Though, I’m unsure why it’s become commonplace to not stop at crosswalks when pedestrians are waiting in the first place.
– Sakura are still in full bloom in my area despite the rain. Beautiful.
– Enjoying going through the entire Mega Man series, a series I never really got into suffice a few games here and there, or just tidbits of some.
– Being able to enjoy a slow morning at a cafe with a coffee. Will hopefully never go back to 9-5s.
– Soyjoy cheese and fruits flavor
Last day of work before a 2-week holiday!!!
Got a great haircut and the hair dresser was actually good at the massage part. She was also not scared of my foreigner hair and pretty enthusiastic.
It’s payday!
No raise, but at least I still get my monthly transport allowance- 1 month worth of bus commuter pass- eventhough I commute with my bicycle. It’s just way more convenient cycling to my office.
It’s really hard for me to understand how Japan’s healthcare system is so efficient, effective, and affordable. Took my kid to the hospital for a whole slew of tests (ECG, echo, blood, x-ray, and more) plus consultations and the full bill for our 30% out of pocket expense was 5000 yen.
Like, technically it would be fully free back in Canada but accessibility and availability is a huge problem there now, plus many many other problems. Even though Japan should be under more pressure due to the much greater proportion of old people.
I’m much happier paying a small price out of pocket here.
Got a dog 😀 And managed to put new projects on hold for a week (for unrelated health reasons) so I’ve had a lighter workload and got to spend lots of time with him as he settles in. Which he’s doing so well with despite his difficult situation before. I really hope we can give him a good home!
Finally got a call from building management co. and told that they are fixing the leakage balcony next week. Will be about 3-4 days of construction. I wonder If I can go out while in construction though :/
12 slices of 牛バラカルビ焼用 angus beef for 250 yen just can’t be beat.
After waiting months on our apartment to be completed being built, we finally got to see it last night, and it was seriously more than I could’ve imagined. I’m so excited to move in next week!
Here’s a fun one: took a taxi to the hospital, chat with the driver about where to go and which route to take etc. During the ride my kids start talking to each other in english. Driver then asks me if my wife is a foreigner 💀💀
I’m a stealth gaijin (asian ethnicity) and completely passed the vibe check I guess.
Praise be to the seishun18 ticket to motivate me to go where I haven’t yet been.
Looks like the rain is going to get me out of some hanami obligations so I’m glad it’s forecast
After waiting what it seemed like forever, my Moogle keyholder from the PARCOxFF collab finally arrived. It’s really cute and it’s such nice quality.
I love onsen~ la la la that’s all
From my oldest, coming home from school.
“Japan and America had a big fight, but Japan won!”
Dear teachers, please specify it was the WBC next time.
Kindest regards,
Miyagidan
Have a few this week, in order:
Monday was graduation and I gotta say I’m really glad I had my contract extended for an extra year. Getting to see the kids I’ve had since they were wee little 1st graders graduate is one of the proudest moments of my life. I wish them all the best and know they’re gonna do great things down the line, great kids.
Next: For how stressful job hunting and life planning in general is, things are going surprisingly smoothly so far. Had several interviews this week that I felt went pretty well, and now have 2 more set up for next week. One of them is for what I would consider a dream job, so fingers crossed!
Finally: Now that the interviews are done, rest of the weekend is for food, drink, and merriment. 送別会 for my boss tonight, Cafe lunch with some friends tomorrow afternoon, then Birthday party for my best friend tomorrow night! Busy, but will be a nice way to unwind a bit after cramming for aforementioned interviews.
Bonus round: Weather is really nice, finally warming up to the double digits, don’t need my winter coat most days, and I even rolled down the car windows driving home yesterday.
Payday today!!!
And super happy with the binoculars I bought last weekend.
my visa renewal was finally processed! it took 5 weeks using the online system (and I will likely never use it again).
Moved house last month and I’m so grateful for it.
Love the house, the neighborhood, love being closer to nature, love the city and love the ocean.
