Itinerary help – May 11-14 in Kyoto with a day trip to Nara

Hello all,

My friend lives in Tokyo and I’m visiting her in May for a few weeks. We’re going to go to Kyoto as well and visit Nara on a day trip from there. I’ve been to Kyoto and Nara and my friend hasn’t (but this was back in 2017 and my memory is Swiss cheese). I’m trying to fiddle with the itinerary and see if I can fit in some Kyoto highlights and our day trip. Does this seem feasible or just silly?

Day 1
– Kiyomizudera Temple
– Gion Neighborhood
– Hokanji Temple Pagoda

Day 2
– Fushimi Inari
– Nishiki Market
– Choraku-ji Temple (it’s my favorite)
– Pontocho Alley

Day 3
– Nara

Day 4
– Arashiyama Bamboo Groce
– Monkey Park
– Tenryuji Temple

  1. If you’re going to Nara just to see the deer and maybe spend another hour or two doing other things as well, you don’t need a whole day. Hit fushimi inari on the way back or on the way there maybe instead of doing it the day before. The same train takes you to both so it’s likely convenient to hit those two together.
