Have you visited Mount Yakedake – Nakanoyu Onsen? I have a few questions

Hi there, has anyone of you hiked **Mount Yakedake – Nakanoyu Onsen** trail? ([all trail link](https://www.alltrails.com/trail/japan/nagano/mount-yakedake-nakanoyu-onsen?u=m))? I have a few questions related to how to reach the onsen access point…

I am planning to catch a bus early in the morning from Takayama bus center to K-26 Nakanoyu, however, the actual onsen (where the access point is) is 45 mins walk from there… Is there a shuttle that goes from Nakanoyu to the onsen that I can catch without booking accommodation at the onsen? Or is there any other access point for Mount Yakedake around K-26 Nakanoyu? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you!

  1. I’ve not done this hike, but I have stayed at Nakanoyu. If the hike begins near the ryokan/hotel, then there is not going to be any sort of shuttle or taxi, because the road between the stop and the ryokan is pretty much just a long driveway to the ryokan. It’s also all up hill and decently steep from what I remember. (We stayed there in 2018.) I know the ryokan had a free shuttle service to Matsumoto and a free shuttle service to Kamikochi, I imagine when coming back from Kamikochi they met you at the Nakanoyu stop (though we went from Kamikochi back to Matsumoto so….) because there were a bunch of young guys staying there multiple days and I think they either started or were going to Takayama eventually.

  2. Why don’t you hike it from Kamikochi? The trail is nicer from that side too. And you get to see Kamikochi.

That way you don’t need to stay at the Onsen and walk along the road. If you really want to hike it from Nakanoyu you can try hitchhiking. People are usually pretty helpful in the mountains, I’ve done it many times. But I’m a girl, so maybe easier. Not sure.
