I arrived just before midnight so I couldn’t get the Mobal SIM card saw recommended as they close at 5 pm.
I’m now around Kobe Sannomiya station and I need a sim to get around. Can anyone recommend what to or where to go please should I just go back to the airport kiosk?

Here but I need something for just a month to get me around as I set up my life

Who recommended you mobal? Their pricing is terrible.
Does your phone support esim? You can buy very cheap roaming esim from a number of providers. it would be delivered instantly. check esimdb.com/japan for more info. I would recommend getting the minimum amount of time/data you require, getting your residence paperwork setup, and then getting a proper provider or mvno, and avoiding “foreigner-friendly” services like mobal.

Temp data only card or do you need voice too? Do you have a zairyu card?
Hit up Sannomiya Center-Gai. Yamada Denki/Labi has tourist data only SIMs that might fit the bill. If you want data and voice, have a zairyu card, and have a local payment method, the major cell phone carriers also have locations in Center-Gai.
