Application or program that works well offline

I’ve read a lot of recommendations for apps and programs but my biggest hurdle will be internet access. I spend 7 months of the year out to sea without internet access. I downloaded Rosetta Stone on to my tablet but it didn’t work out.

What apps or programs would work best for my unique situation. I would download or set up whatever I needed on shore but wouldn’t be able to update anything or or have internet access for 3 to 6 weeks at a time.

Appreciate any and all recommendations!

  1. Download kiwi browser, after that go to extensions, and download yomichan. Download the [dictionaries](https://github.com/FooSoft/yomichan) (they can be use offline). Finally, go to the site [https://ttu-ebook.web.app](https://ttu-ebook.web.app) (It can also be use offline), you can read any kind of epub file that you may have within your device. After setting up everything, you can read japanese with the fastest looks ups without using internet.

  2. Here are some offline apps for iOS

    [Jisho](https://apps.apple.com/jp/app/%E7%99%BD%E6%AA%9C%E8%BE%9E%E6%9B%B8/id1005203380) – offline dictionary app

[IKanji](https://apps.apple.com/jp/app/ikanji-learn-japanese-kanji/id311920885) – offline app to teach kanji

[Kanji lookup](https://apps.apple.com/jp/app/%E6%BC%A2%E5%AD%97%E6%A4%9C%E7%B4%A2/id973780102) – offline app to look up unknown kanji

[Genki](https://www.amazon.com/Banno-Eri/dp/4789017303/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=474NFW5NQ0Q0&keywords=genki&qid=1679722035&sprefix=genki%2Caps%2C140&sr=8-1) – book series to learn basic japanese

[Anki](https://apps.ankiweb.net/) – helps retain new knowledge

When you have internet, download a bunch of books you could read when you have more experience with the language….I think this list could get you going for offline learning 🙂

Apps like Rosetta Stone are not offline (at least to my knowledge) because they are services, which means they will always be online

  3. Android: Takoboto is the best offline dictionary for Android, and Anki is free, offline and effective so you can’t go wrong

  4. If you want to use apps (and not books), I would personally go for Human Japanese (basic + intermediate) for grammar and Anki for vocabulary.
